Behind the Scenes: Shipping Balusters

Last month, we checked out the Ekena Millwork Arcadian balusters being individually assembled. This week we take a closer look at how our shipping team sends them out.

At first glance, one can tell that balusters are pretty large items and customers never buy just one. Typically, customers purchase several balusters along with other components to create a beautiful balustrade railing. With all of these fairly large items, it makes sense that our expert shipping team uses large, custom build crates to ship the products to the customer. The crates can transport up to 30 balusters for customers with bigger projects. The crate is made out of wood bound with steel strapping and, just for good measure, wrapped with several layers of polyolefin film.

Molded after original historical patterns and designs, the Ekena Millwork balusters are true to make a bold statement of elegance. Balusters are made from lightweight, yet very durable, urethane material that allows it to be resistant to the natural effects of weathering, rotting and insect exposure. The shipping team sends the balusters factory primed and ready to paint or apply a faux finish to each customer.

Behind the Scenes: Ekena Millwork Dublin Casing

Pictured below are several Ekena Millwork Dublin window and door casing on a padded rack. We use these padded rolling racks to transport larger products. By using these racks, the probability of scuffmarks on the products is reduced exponentially. These particular Dublin casings are on their way to be trimmed by one of our warehouse team members. After they are trimmed and inspected for quality control, the Dublin casings will be packaged and shipped to the customer.

Our beautiful casing adds a decorative, historic, feel to walls, ceilings, and furniture pieces. They are made from a high density urethane which gives each piece the unique details that mimic that of traditional plaster and wood designs, but at a fraction of the weight. This means a simple and easy installation for you. These are also commonly used for an inexpensive wainscot look.

Behind the Scenes: Ekena Millwork Rustic Octagon Gable Vent

Pictured below is the early beginning of the Ekena Millwork octagon gable vent that will ship to a valued customer. This particular gable vent is composed of rough sawn western red cedar wood from the forests of North America. The wood travels quite a distance to arrive in our warehouse in Texas. Our warehouse team measures the pieces of wood and assembles them into the final product.

The custom octagon gable vent is part of the Rustic Collection, meaning it is 100% unique. Because our products are not kiln dried, each item in our Rustic Collection contains the natural variations that the wood species offers. Your wood gable vent will contain unique colors, grains, textures, knots, sapwood & heartwood content. These natural variations are what make the Rustic Collection standout from the rest. Plus they are under a strict quality control team; we do not allow anything less than high quality products to leave our warehouses.

Behind the Scenes: Ekena Millwork Crawley Wrought Iron Bracket

Last week, we showed you an inside look at the gigantic gable brackets and how our team constructs them. This time, we are going to take a look at these Ekena Millwork Crawley wrought iron brackets.

Architecturally speaking, it is often rare to have a one size fits all kind of product. The industry is simply not created that way. Here at ArchitecturalDepot.com we understand that and make every effort to better equip our customers with custom sizes and finishes. Whether they are wood, metal or urethane products, we create custom products to fit your specific project needs.

The Crawley wrought iron bracket comes in a standard powder black finish; however, it is not limited to that standard finish. Our warehouse team members can change that bracket from being a basic black to a different finish with more character. With a more unique finish, the bracket instantly becomes more dynamic and an even more valuable to your project.  Below is a picture of a couple of Crawley brackets in different finishes. Doesn’t that look better than the average powder coated black finish?
